Intel, Google, Microsoft disclose new Spectre/Meltdown variant

Intel Corp. INTC, +1.53% said late Monday that it and Alphabet Inc.'s GOOG, +1.24% GOOGL, +1.34% Google Project Zero and Microsoft Corp. MSFT, +1.29% have came upon another variant of a chip-based exploit published initially of the year. Following the disclose of the so-called Spectre and Meltdown exploits, Intel said it, Alphabet and Microsoft have came upon a brand new exploit they call "Variant 4." "Variant 4 uses speculative execution, a feature common to most modern processor architectures, to potentially expose certain kinds of data through a side channel," Intel said in a remark. Intel said it has already delivered microcode updates to hide Variant 4 to system producers and device vendors.
